Short Biographies of Seacoast Academy Faculty

Deborah Hobbs is our math teacher.  She has taught math through algebra II and geometry at both the middle school and high school levels. She also taught science, computers and religion. In schooling her two daughters at home through grade eight, Debbie developed and implemented curriculum across all disciplines. For five years, Debbie directed the Religious Education Program at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Portsmouth. She has also coached an area swim team.

Craig W. Kerrick is our English teacher.  Craig brings more than thirty years of experience as a teacher and administrator in independent schools to Seacoast Academy. He has taught American Studies and English from grade five through grade twelve, including Advanced Placement English. He has also served as English Department Chair, Upper School Coordinator and Assistant Head of School. Craig participated in a one-year teacher exchange program with Methodist Ladies’ College in Melbourne, Australia, where he taught and developed strategies for integrating laptop computers into the English curriculum. Based on summer research from two grants, Craig authored a manual for faculty, “Writing Across the Disciplines.”

Wendy Bayer Dillon teaches Music and Drama.  Wendy has taught general music, chorus, and madrigals at both the middle school and high school levels. She has also been Assistant Director and/or Musical Director for many student performances. While at Thomaston High School in Connecticut, Wendy revised the high school music curriculum to incorporate the National Standards for Arts Education, organized the Thomaston High School Performing Arts Booster Club, and founded the Music Theater Club.
Mike McCarron teaches Spanish. Mike earned his B.A. from the University of New Hampshire with a dual major in Spanish and psychology. He spent his junior year studying Spanish language, literature, and art at the University of Granada in Spain. In May, 2006 Mike earned a Masters degree in Spanish from the University of New Hampshire. As part of his graduate studies, he spent two months at the University of the Americas, Puebla, Mexico where he completed courses in Spanish language, and Mexican culture and politics. For the past three years he has been an instructor of beginning and intermediate Spanish at the University of New Hampshire. For the past two summers he has taught English to adolescents at a camp at Palma de Mallorca, Spain. Mike also has extensive experience as a camp counselor. Mike has been an improvisational comedian for six years and is the founder of his own improv comedy group.
Sarah Roe is a 2005 graduate, Magna Cum Laude, of the University of New Hampshire where she earned a degree in studio arts with a concentration in art education. Sarah distinguished herself by participating in as many teaching internships as possible including Phillips Exeter Academy and an elementary school in Italy.Currently, Sarah teaches children of all ages at ECCA (Exeter Center for Creative Arts).  Sarah  is our arts teacher and  in  charge of the  after-school programs.

Our science teacher, Lynne Standish has experience teaching science in both private and public school settings and at both the middle school and high school level. For four years Lynne worked as a naturalist at the New England Aquarium Boat Program.  Last summer she worked as a counselor at the Seacoast Science Center in Rye, NH.  Lynne has also volunteered with City Year Boston and AmeriCorps.  She holds a Master of Science degree in Education.

Elaine Schubert is our physical education teacher.  She has over 22 years of experience in schools, most of it as a physical education and health teacher.  She has also taught career education. Elaine’s broad experience spans elementary, middle and high school as well as coaching many sports.  Her expertise in physical education is wellness, an approach that centers on life-long fitness, health and wellness.

Susan Walker teaches humanities. Susan’s career has included work as a classroom teacher and administrator in both public and private schools and at the elementary, middle school, and college levels. She has worked as a development officer, School Director, Division Head, and Interim Head of School. While her “passion” is social studies, she has also taught language arts and math. She holds a BA and MA in Art History from Mary Baldwin College and the University of New Mexico respectively and studied at the University of Paris, Sorbonne. Susan has served on the boards of numerous non-profit organizations.
